In 2022, Malahide Basketball Club achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first club in Ireland to receive the Basketball Ireland Platinum Club Mark Award. This prestigious accolade recognizes clubs that have demonstrated excellence across all facets of their organization, including governance, development, and community engagement. The Platinum level, as outlined by Basketball Ireland, signifies a club’s commitment to implementing long-term plans and actively participating in basketball initiatives over a period of one to two years.

Policies

Child Protection

We are obliged to have a Child Protection Officer and a Designated Liaison Person in alignment with our governing body, Basketball Ireland.

In Malahide Basketball Club, we have taken the approach of having a Child Protection Committee of eight individuals. A broad spectrum of representation allows for discussion and consensus. It is a strictly confidential group that ensures our Child Protection Policy is vigilantly adhered to.

We consider our Child Protection Policy to be a working document to allow us to evolve our policy over time to best protect the young people within our club.

The Sport Ireland ‘Safeguarding Guidance for Children & Young People in Sport’ is a comprehensive document outlining the purpose of Child Protection within our club. The Basketball Ireland website has a wealth of further Child Protection information specific to our sport.

Our lead Child Protection Officer is Eadaoin Dodds and our Designated Liaison Officer is Aine Lenagh.

Any Child Protection concern can be brought to our attention through email at incident@malahidebc.com

Or by a call or text by phone to Eadaoin.

Love2Play

The club’s Child Protection Officers have evolved their role to include the Love2Play group. This has been developed to ensure the comfort and safety of all our members.

Please report any issues or feedback which may impact anyone within our club. The link for our incident/injury report form can be found in the top right hand corner of the home page.

Parents and players should contact the team manager to arrange a meeting with a coach, Love2Play group member or committee member at a time agreeable to all parties.

In keeping with our club structure we advise you to bring issues to the attention of the coach or team manager in the first instance. However, everyone is invited to liaise with a member of the Love2Play to discuss any issue. A large poster is displayed in the MCS hall identifying all the members.

In the event that you feel it is necessary please contact the committee directly through the email of the club secretary at Mbc77secretary@gmail.com

Reporting an Injury or Incident

Reporting of injuries or incidents allows us to monitor the well being of all our players. Injury reporting may be important for insurance claims.

Please find the Incident Form in the top right hand corner of our website pages and a link at the end of this section

Please encourage injured players to still attend all training sessions and games when possible.

There is so much to learn from the sidelines. Recovery time can allow a player a new perspective of the game, the coach and the team. The coach may be grateful to have an injured players act aa a temporary assistant coach.

Attending training sessions when injured maintains connection with the team and any developments, or introductions, of game related practices.

Any incident in which one of our members is mistreated or abused should be reported for the protection of our members.
